Foshan Open Culture and Industry Symposium kept its exciting speeches at Canton International House today. The theme focused on golf course maintenance attracted lots of professionals and elites in this area to join and share their ideas and experience in aspects of course maintenance, management and sustainable development. The discussions and communication resulted in many new ideas awaiting for practice.

佛山高尔夫球会资源草坪总监王明刚先生和工商管理学博士、美国俱乐部经理人协会中国分会主席戴耀宗先生先后致辞，拉开了今天主题活动的序幕。佛山高尔夫球会对绿色环保可持续发展理念以及GEO标准的坚持，让它在业内获得盛誉，GEO为球会运营管理的推动功不可没。GEO执行董事Jonathan Smith先生对GEO认证做了简单介绍后，为8家新加入OnCourse计划的球会颁发证书，同时为四家GEO认证球会举行了授旗仪式。他说：“可持续发展理念不仅能够为中国高尔夫球场的形象加分，提升高尔夫行业的影响力，还能为球场运营节省成本，降低维护成本与投入。希望为中国高尔夫的未来尽一份力。”
The welcome speeches by the Superintendent of Foshan Golf Club Mr. Minggang Wang and the Chairman of CMAA China Region Dr. Aylwin Tai opened today’s symposium.
The consistent contribution from Foshan Golf Club in environmental protection and sustainable development has made the Club achieve the reputation, and GEO is the key for its success of operation improvement. Executive Member of the Board in GEO, Mr Jonathan Smith introduced the GEO certification program, then he presented the certificates to 8 golf clubs who lately joined the OnCourse program and 4 golf clubs the GEO certification. He said the sustainability concept would not only reshape the image of golf clubs in China but also increase the influence of golf industry in addition to reducing the operation cost and investment for the golf courses. He hoped the GEO program would help the future of golf in China.

《可持续发展经济导刊》社长兼主编于志宏先生就主题“可持续发展价值和实现路径”发表了见解，并呼吁高尔夫人共同努力推动行业发展，引起了众多嘉宾共鸣。他认为：高尔夫可通过“四有——有心、有人、有行、有言”路径实现可持续性管理，不断学习借鉴其他体育产业的成功经验，做实高尔夫可持续发展的实践，讲好高尔夫可持续发展故事。
President and Chief Editor of China sustainability Tribune, Mr. Zhihong Yu expressed his opinions in “Values and Ways of Sustainable Development” and called for all people in the industry to push forward on its development, which gained a great resonate from audiences. His thinking was that golf would reach the sustainable management by those people with heart, actions and commitments. Through learning from successful models of other sports, the sustainability in golf would become reality with consistent practices and learning.

北京康多尔高尔夫球场设计公司球场设计师、GEO OnCourse中国咨询委员会理事卢军先生结合自身经验，以“草坪管理如何与GEO结合并提升经济效益”为切入点，进行了专业解读和分析，提出通过量化指标管理、数据管理提升效益的思路。他特别提出：应该改变灌溉理念、不追求碧绿而是追求黄绿色，这样不仅降低管理成本，而且让草坪长得更健壮。卢军先生的积极探索和干货分享，让不少嘉宾频频点头表示认可。
Mr. Jun Lu, Golf Course Designer and Member of China Advisory Committee of GEO OnCourse presented his professional analysis in the theme of “Economic Impacts on GEO & Course Management”. Combining with experience he had, Mr. Lu raised the ideas of efficiency improvement by KPI management and database control. He especially remarked that the irrigation goal shall be changed from pursuing green to healthy yellowish green which it could save the cost and keep the turf better. The active exploration and practical information Mr. Lu shared won many agreements from the crowd.

华南农业大学教授 、广东省草业协会副会长张巨明先生同时也是GEO中国认证官员。他以佛山高尔夫球会为例，详细介绍了GEO球场及赛事认证条件。球会通过GEO认证以后，每年养护费用逐年减少，成本大大降低，而且环保成效显著。在座嘉宾对GEO进一步加深了解，纷纷表示收获良多。
Mr. Jimmy Zhang, Professor of South China Agriculture University and Vice President of Guangdong Grass Industry Association is the official of GEO in China as well. He used Foshan Golf Club as examples to demonstrate the requirements of GEO certification has to golf courses and tournaments. The club had paid less bills to course maintenance while becoming more and more environmental friendly after certification. The information helped the audience get a deeper knowledge of GEO.

After the symposium, we had a short interview with Prof. Zhang:
“起初，高尔夫是一项起源于苏格兰牧羊人的草根运动。但高尔夫在中国的发展中曾经遇到了迷津，某些球会盲目追求奢华而忽略了环保和可持续发展，这给社会公众带来了 “洪水猛兽”般的不良印象。其实，高尔夫实现可持续发展是十分必要的。将环保的理念和措施践行到球场的建设中，可持续发展必成大功。目前得到GEO认证的球会也已经感受到了球场建设成本的降低和生态环境的改善，在为社区带来贡献的同时，自身经济效益也有所提升。因此，获得GEO认证是实在而有必要的。我非常乐于参加高尔夫及可持续发展方向的研讨会；我会把在交流会上收获的研究成果及经验总结都分享给学生，让他们知道高球场上的环保及可持续发展通过措施都是可以实现的。在教学过程中我会让学生了解球场产业的发展和可持续发展给球场带来的积极的贡献。学生对此也很感兴趣 。”
As a public sports originated by shepherds in Scotland, golf development went into a maze in China and created the negative image in the public because of the ignorance of environment and sustainability and pursuit of luxurious waste. As a matter of fact, the sustainable practice in golf is necessary for its benefits to the operation and construction of golf courses. Those golf clubs certified by GEO have gained from the lower cost in course construction, and improvement of eco environment, and they have been able to contribute to the community as well as increase the business sufficiency. Therefore, being certified by GEO is essential and useful for the clubs. I am pleased to participate in the conference in golf sustainable development, from which I will share the information and outcomes with my students to teach them the possibility in sustainable development and environmental protection in golf courses by scientific methods. During the lessons, I will introduce the deployment of golf industry and the positive impact from sustainability , in which students are very interested.

Mr. Kai Wang, Technology Director of the Swiss Syngenta Lawn Garden gave a speech on “Pesticide Use Impacts and Golf Course Environmental Protection” by the products of Syngenta to maintain golf courses for professional knowledge of chemical usage while protecting the nature.

江苏功成生物科技有限公司副总经理、虫控行业著名解决方案培训专家刘根龙先生就“虫害解决方案在草坪养护中的运用”主题展开讨论，以日常草坪维护中常见的虫害问题为例，为来宾解读虫害解决的方法以及日常的预防，并对主要害虫的防治给出了专业建议。
Mr. Longgen Liu, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Gongcheng Bio Technology Ci., Ltd. and Training Expert in Pest Control opened the discussion in “Pest Control Application on Golf Course Maintenance” with examples of pest problems in daily maintenance to analyze the solutions and preventions as well as professional suggestions on preventions to popular pests on course.

Following was the “Difference Between Lawn Immune System and Humic Acid” by Mr. Li Yuan, the Chief Representative of American Furet China. The audience learnt a lot about the immune system process of plants from his professional speech.

深圳诺普信公司旗下八方生态高尔夫草坪事业部技术总监袁军先生结合行业现状，围绕“合规、环保、抗性”三大核心要素，提出高尔夫草坪有害生物治理方案。他表示：农药是特殊商品，规范化要求越来越严格，必须严格管理。合规是本分、环保是标准、抗性是追求。
Mr. Jun Yuan, Technical Director of Octagon Ecological Golf Turf of Shenzhen gave out the solutions of biological control of golf course by concentrating in compliance, environmental protection and resistance. He said chemical is a special product that has been becoming stricter in regulations for application, so compliance is a must while environmental protection is standard and resistance is goal.

辉得昌远东有限公司董事长告士文先生成为今日论坛的压轴演讲嘉宾。告士文先生毕业于美国普林斯顿大学，积累了丰富的行业经验，就“有机物、科学、土壤及水份的有机结合”主题发表了精彩演讲。他特别强调，中国的高尔夫球场逐步老化，一个好的球场总监应该适时调整每年的管理方案，不仅仅是施肥和水分管理，农药施用方案也一样。
As the grand finale speaker, the President of Witgang - Mr. Rob Glucksman gave an excellent speech in the “Combination of Organics, Science, Soil and Water”. Graduated from Princeton University, he had rich turf maintenance experience which he addressed the importance of adjustment of annual management plan including fertilization, water control and chemical schedule since the golf courses in China had been becoming older.
